Frequently Asked Questions
What ages can participate?
Our program serves youth athletes aged 6 – 14 (not yet in high school).
Do players need experience to join?
No! All ages and experience levels are welcome! Our coaches teach fundamentals, safety, teamwork, and sportsmanship at every age.
When does the season start and end?
Spring conditioning will take place on Sundays (holidays exempt) beginning April 12th. These are not mandatory, but a great opportunity for kids to get to know each other and work on some fundamentals before the season starts. There will be two football camps taking place in June, with more details available as the date gets closer. The season will official start the beginning of July and runs through October (with potential to run into November with playoffs). Schedule is subject to change, and at the coach’s discretion.
How do I register my child?
In-Person sign ups:
Mt. Shasta Mall – Feb 21st, Mar 14th, and April 11th from 11am – 2pm.
Online Registration: Open to veteran players February 1st, and to all other players Feb 21st.

Summer practices are Monday – Thursday evenings. After Jamboree practices will decrease to Tuesday – Thursday evenings. Schedules are always subject to change based on coaches discretion and high school availability.
Is football/cheer safe for kids?
Athlete safety is our top priority. Coaches are certified in Heads Up Football / USA Football principles, proper tackling, hydration, and concussion awareness.
Can parents volunteer?
Absolutely! Parent volunteers are essential to the success of our program! Opportunities include helping in our Snack Shack or Main Gate on game days, snack/hydration for the teams during games, chain gang, fundraising events, and so much more!
Is cheer competitive or sideline cheer?
Our program focuses on sideline cheer, basic stunts, tumbling, and crowd engagement, with several competitions depending on the season.
Do cheerleaders travel with the team?
Yes, cheerleaders attend games and special events, including playoffs when possible.
What happens if there is bad weather?
Practices and games may be delayed or canceled for extreme heat, lightning, smoke, or unsafe field conditions. Updates are posted on social media and sent via team communication apps. See below for our AQI Policy.
Is fundraising required? How can businesses sponsor a team or player?
Fundraising helps keep registration costs low, ensures safety equipment is up to date, and allows the most opportunities for our athletes to participate in the program. We offer sponsorship opportunities for businesses and families at a variety of levels! See our website, or reach out to Jeannie – [email protected] for any questions, or to sign up!
What are parents expected to do?
Parents are expected to:
- Follow the Code of Conduct
- Support coaches and referees respectfully
- Ensure athletes arrive on time and prepared

What happens if a parent violates the code of conduct?
The program enforces a zero-tolerance policy for code of conduct violations.

AIR QUALITY INDEX
The AQI will be monitored throughout the day. Practice changes or cancellations will be called at 5:30pm for the day. This allows for change in locations and parents to adjust. If practice is cancelled that day, it will not be reversed. You can review below the AQI table for how Shasta Jr Wolves will adjust for high AQI numbers.
Air Quality Index (AQI) Policy -
The following policy is being adopted by the Shasta Jr Wolves from recommendations prepared by the Shasta County Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Their website can be viewed here.
The Fire and Smoke Map considers the following in determining the Air Quality Index (AQI)*:
● Data from permanent official monitoring sites (Circles),
● Data from temporary official monitoring sites (Triangles),
● Data from low cost sensors i.e. Purple Air (Squares),
● EPA approved correction factors for the low-cost sensors that provide more accurate data,
● Ease of use by the public who no longer have to “switch” the data into the AQ&U or LRAPA correction factor
● Visual layers showing fire and smoke plume locations.
*Due to quality control processing, some low cost sensors do not display on the AirNow Fire and Smoke Map. These sensors can be accessed at the Purple Air website. In the Map Data Layer dialogue box, switch the correction factor from “None” to “LRAPA”. This will display corrected values.
-Practice will be called at 5:30 pm.
